A dental implant is a prosthesis that interfaces with the bone of the jaw to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, or facial prosthesis, or to act as an orthodontic anchor.
Dentures gradually lose their fit as the underlying bone changes from repeated denture use. Implant-supported dentures are a good option to replace conventional dentures that no longer fit well due to bone loss, improving comfort, and can also replace missing teeth. PPG offers full mouth, full arch, and all-on-four implant denture restorations.
The main causes of periodontal disease are infections and inflammation of the gums and the bone that surround the teeth. When gingivitis occurs in the early stages of gum disease, the gums may swell, turn red, and even bleed. If left untreated, this leads to irreversible damage to the supporting bone and jaw structure and eventually tooth loss. Research shows periodontal disease can contribute to increased risk factors for many systemic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, premature birth, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and dementia.
A dental procedure done to restore the function and look of teeth, gums, and bones damaged by periodontal disease. People with severe or moderate-to-advanced disease around their gums and supporting tissues are usually candidates.
Recommended post periodontal surgical treatment or after scaling and root planing, because bacteria tend to collect below or above the gum line. Studies show patients with a history of periodontal disease should have a periodontal maintenance cleaning by a dental professional roughly every 3 months.
In this surgical process, diseased or damaged bone is repaired and rebuilt using transplanted bone (from a tissue bank, synthetic grafts, or the patient's own mouth), needed practically anywhere in the mouth.
Gum recession can often be reversed using gum grafting (a gingival transplant), which provides volume to the gum line and covers exposed tooth roots. Tissue is typically taken from the roof of the mouth or neighboring healthy gum tissue (or, for multiple affected teeth, donor dermal tissue) and secured in place to heal.
